Go Get It

Have you ever been inspired after watching a marathon on T.V. to train for one, one day? Do you think you need to lose some weight and get back in shape, but have a lack of motivation and support? You might think, “Oh, I can’t do that,” and you feel over-whelmed, well here is some information that will help you get past these road- blocks.

Self-Determination

According to two psychologists Edward Deci and James Ryan all humans have an internal drive that motivates them. Deci and Ryan theorizes that all humans have a need to feel competent or have the freedom to make his or her own choices. People need to have autonomy or feel that they have a task to master, and that they have relatedness or a sense of community or that they belong in a group. When all these needs are met they result in the Self-determination Theory. (Deci and Ryan 2000).

Intrinsic Motivation

Motivation can be intrinsic coming for an internal need to deepen your own knowledge by doing an activity because you personally enjoy it e.g. learning a musical instrument. People might also have the urge to challenge a difficult skill, and they would be determined to do it themselves.

Extrinsic Motivation

Motivation can also be extrinsic where the rewards come externally like being motivated by money e.g. doing extra work for a cash bonus. You can fuel your own flames of passion to continue on through obstacles when you are internally motivated to do so. “Good things come to people who wait, but better things come to those who go out and get them.” ~Anonymous
